Position: Water / Wastewater Engineer

Pay is DOE

Knowledge:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Must have PE registration.
  • Experience with water, wastewater, and water distribution and collection required.
  • Hydrology and hydraulic modeling skills a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoDesk Civil 3D is a plus.


Essential Functions of Position:


  • Execute consulting and design project success with processes related to civil infrastructure water/wastewater treatment applications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for civil infrastructure water/wastewater treatment permitting and the delivery of treatability studies, conceptual design, process optimization, and system operations of water/wastewater treatment.
  • Manage multiple conceptual design projects while providing task management and technical contributions to multidiscipline teams to bring innovative solutions to civil infrastructure water/wastewater problems.
  • Provide Quality Control/Quality Assurance for work projects.
  • Create/monitor scope, schedules and budget of work projects.
  • Manage engineering work and interface with other disciplines as needed.
  • Display strong communication and interpersonal skills; visit clients, jobsites and consultant offices as needed to support project and business development needs.
  • Serve as team leader or work as an integral part of a team; provide mentoring for less experienced staff/team members.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • Perform and manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities and deadlines in a timely manner.​

  • Ability to safely traverse project sites.  
  • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Use and maintain various engineering tools and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Physically perform the essential job functions.

2016 ASCE Southern Idaho Section Academic Scholarship


After careful review of the scholarship applications, ASCE Southern Idaho Section is pleased to announce that Eric Stoddard has been selected to receive the $1,000 ASCE-SIS scholarship award. We are sure the scholarship will be put to good use as Eric continues his education in Civil Engineering.  The scholarship was be presented to Eric at the ASCE meeting held on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 at noon. Eric was also be recognized at the annual ASCE-SIS banquet on April 19th in Boise, Idaho.

The SIS board would like to thank everyone who submitted an application for the 2015-2016 ASCE-SIS Scholarship. We are impressed by the outstanding civil engineering students in our section.  We encourage all eligible applicants to apply again next year and continue to be active in their student ASCE Civil Engineering chapters and clubs.

Background:

The Southern Idaho Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has established a
scholarship program for Civil Engineering students currently enrolled in the Civil Engineering curriculum at Boise State University (BSU), Brigham Young University - Idaho (BYU-I), the College of Southern Idaho (CSI), or Idaho State University (ISU). 

Applications must be received by the Scholarship Chairperson on or before December 31, 2014. The name of the recipients of the Scholarship will be announced during the spring semester. 

Purpose:

The Scholarship Program was established to recognize, encourage, and assist promising students who have expressed interest in pursuing a career in the field of Civil Engineering and to recognize students who have been active in ASCE Section and Student Chapter activities. 

Scholarship Amount:

The ASCE Southern Idaho Section anticipates awarding 1 scholarship. The amount of the scholarship will be $1,000. 

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates must currently be enrolled in good standing at BSU, BYU-I, or ISU as a Civil Engineering student, or enrolled in good standing at CSI and working towards an Associate of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering. Candidates from CSI must also include a letter of acceptance from a four-year Civil Engineering degree granting institution. The candidate must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours towards their declared degree and must have more than 24 credit hours remaining to complete the Civil Engineering degree. 

In addition, the candidate must be a participating member of ASCE. Any given student may only be awarded a scholarship a maximum of 2 times.

Position: Civil Engineer-in-Training

Knowledge:


  • ​A Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Advanced mathematics, including trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and calculus, and its application to surveying and engineering computations is required. 


Essential Functions of Position:


  • Work under the direction of our professional engineering staff to perform:  layout, drafting and design work for public works and utility projects utilizing computer programs.  This may include design of roads, bridges, structures, and/or traffic control devices; stormwater collection and disposal systems; wastewater collection, treatment and disposal systems; water treatment and distribution systems; and appurtenances.
  • Designs and/or prepares contract plans for capital improvement projects.
  • Prepares and reviews engineering plans, reports, studies, and related documents.
  • Prepares scopes, cost estimates, specifications, special provisions and related documents for projects.
  • Prepares portions of engineering plans, reports or studies for existing or proposed capital improvement projects or operational concerns; reviews calculations or routine work of others.
  • Assists with review of development projects for compliance with client ordinances, state and federal statutes and regulations, adopted standards or policy and meets with project applicants to resolve questions or problems.
  • Provides information at public meetings or to a hearing examiner, board, commission, or elected officials on project or cases being reviewed by the department.
  • Under direction of a higher level engineer, observe construction projects for compliance with established inspection programs and prepares appropriate reports; calculates and verifies pay quantities for contracted services. 


Abilities:


  • Learn state and federal laws, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Adapt engineering information, codes, and standards to the planning, review, design, and construction of capital improvement projects.
  • Collect and analyze technical information and to develop logical solutions or alternatives to problems.
  • Use a personal computer and computer-aided design systems, and to develop new applications of existing programs to complete job functions.
  • Prepare, interpret, and utilize plans, maps, specifications, special provisions, and reports.
  • Perform engineering calculations and to prepare engineering reports
  • Use and maintain various engineering tools and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
